This event will ONLY be offered in-person and will require registration prior to the event. Registration must be completed by 5:00 pm on Tuesday, April 26th. Due to the nature of the event, we will have a limited registration of 60 guests and the opportunity of a waitlist after the limit is reached.
Rae Armantrout is Professor Emerita of Writing at the University of California at San Diego. She has also taught at the California College of Arts and Crafts, Bard College, Naropa University, San Diego State University, and San Francisco State University.
Armantrout’s next book, Finalists, is due out in March 2022. Her previous books include Conjure (2020), Wobble (2018), which a finalist for the National book Award; Partly: New and Selected Poems, 2001–2015 (2016); Itself (2015); Just Saying (2013); Money Shot (2011); and Versed (2009), which received the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, the National Book Critics Circle Award for Poetry, and was also a finalist for the National Book Award. Next Life (2007) and Up to Speed (2003) were selected by Publishers Weekly as best poetry books of their given years.
Armantrout has been published in many anthologies, including The Oxford Book of American Poetry and Scribner’s Best American Poetry of 1998, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2007, 2008, and 2011, and in such magazines as Harpers, The New Yorker, American Poetry Review, Boston Review, Chicago Review, and the Los Angeles Times Book Review. She has also received awards from the Guggenheim Foundation (2008), the Fund for Poetry (1999 and 1994) and the California Arts Council Individual Artist Fellowship (1989). She was born in Vallejo, California, and earned her AB at University of California at Berkeley (1970), and her MA at San Francisco State University (1975). She lives in Everett, Washington.
Xiangliang Zhang is Associate Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Notre Dame. Her research focuses on machine learning, data mining and their application in knowledge discovery. She targets challenging problems that include: learning from complicated and dynamic environments; learning with missing and noisy data; understanding the risk of machine learning models under threats of attacks; discovering novel knowledge in various application domains via knowledge representation learning, extraction and inference. Prior to joining the University of Notre Dame, she was an Associate Professor in Computer Science at KAUST, Saudi Arabia. She earned her Ph.D. degree in computer science from INRIA-University Paris-Sud, France, and her MA & BA from Xi’an Jiaotong University, China.
